I’ve been asked to do a review of the band Grand Fox’s debut album ”Space Nest”. The band started in 2013 in the city of Thessaloniki, located in Greece. The band describes their sound themselves as: ”Space Psychedelic Stoner Heavy Rock”. They released the album ”Space Nest” in 2016. I’ve never heard of this band and although it doesn’t sound like my preferred style of music, it will be fun to hear how it sounds.
The album has a very interesting cover. The cover consists of an image of space with planets in the background. To be the space, the cover has a rather interesting color. The cover is more green in color than one would expect from a mage of space. Something that really caught my eye was the fox lying in a bird’s nest. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to mean. I am well aware of the band’s name and that they even have ”Fox” in their name. thus it is very understandable that they somehow want a fox in the album cover but I do not really understand the idea of the bird nest. However, whatever that is suppoused to mean, it certainly caught my Eye.

”Strange Situation” – 6:31

BEWARE: Below are my opinions. Remember that opinions and music taste differ. So I would like to urge you as a reader not to judge an album based solely on what I write. See this review more as an introduction to you instead of something definitive.
The album and thus the first song ”Strange Situation” starts with a rather interesting sound. It has a fairly electronic sound and then starts a captivating and cool guitar riff. At the beginning of the vocal part, they added a filter on top of the voice. Overall, the first song has a pretty cool and captivating sound and feel to it. After hearing this song, I’m actually very interested in hearing the rest of the album.
The next song on the album is called ”Route 66”. It has a pretty cool intro to it with the voice in the background. When he says at the beginning ”Enjoy the ride!” and then starting the guitar riff is a pretty cool idea and it feels like it can work very well when playing live. The guitar work is fantastic in this song and it really makes me react to the music. I can’t sit completely still while listening to this song. Haha, the ending is great ”F*ck you motherf*cker”. Yeah i really felt that one haha.
The next song ”Burned Beard” has a really cool intro. The song starts very quiet with just a few sounds that sound like the hi-hat or cymbals and then a snare fill and the song starts with a really cool riff. This song feels a little different compared to the other songs so far. And if you’ve read some of my other reviews, you probably know that I like being surprised. I’m pretty sure this is my favorite song so far on this album.
”Psychotropic” is the name of the next song on the album. This song also starts with some sounds in the background and gives a very atmospheric sound to it. It then goes into a very slow guitar riff and vocals with some filters on it again. This song is more of a ballad type of song compared to the other songs so far. The voices in the background really gives this song a special feeling. The choice to have a slower song in the middle of an album is in my opinion a very good idea. I really like this song but if I were to give it any criticism it would probably be the length of the song. With this song length, a song like this is experienced as very long and the risk is that listeners lose interest when a song is too long.
The following song ”Mind Disorder” starts with a pretty cool drum beat and has some sort of radio sounding voice. I feel that this song has a bit more electronic sound than the previous songs have. I like that they added a part between the verses with just the radio voice. I also like that the song ends with the radio voice saying the line ”thank you very much sir”, it feels brilliant.
The next song ”Oriental War” begins in a completely different way and I didn’t suspect it at all. A completely different type of drumbeats and a sound that sounds like a flute. And then the voices in the background give the sound a cool feeling. Then after a while the guitars start with a cool riff and the flutes continue in the background. This sound makes the song feel very unique. The songs ends in a similair way that it started.
The name of the next song is ”Apopsychosis”, It took a few tries before I could pronounce it correctly. They seem to like to start their songs quietly because this one also does it with some voices in the background. Then the drums come in with a drum beat. I feel that the intro is a little too long and I was almost waiting for the song to start. after the drum beat the guitars and the vocals start.
The next and also the last song on the album is ironically called ”New Beginning”. The song starts with guitars and some cymbals. A drum beat starts and some calm vocals starts. Then all of a sudden the song goes from a ballad sounding song to much faster. I didn’t see it coming at all. I assumed they would end the album with one more ballad. I usually prefer when an album starts hard and fast and also ends that way. The song and album ends very calmly and in a similair way that the last song started.
Overall this album was pretty cool and it is very clear that these guys knows what they are doing. The vocals was great and fitted the rest of the Music and i Believe that he made an amazing job with the vocals on this album. The guitars was also Amazing and played some riffs that made it more or less impossible to sit still while Writing this. The drummer also pulled off some really cool beats on this album. Even though this is not really my go to type of Music i really enjoyd this album. If you are into this kind of Music or just generally Classic rock i’m sure you will like this album. I definitelly Believe that you should look this up. Ok so now i Believe that its a good time to rate this thing.

VERDICT OVERVIEW:
A LIST DESCRIBING WHAT THE DIFFERENT VERDICTS MEAN.

1: extremely bad, stay as far away from this album as you can
2: Wow this really sucked
3: this is bad but has some decent things in it
4: Not impressed but its not that bad
5: 50-50 not that good but not bad, its listenable
6: this is good
7: This is really good
8: wow this is great
9: This is awesome! You should definitely check this album out!
10: MASTERPIECE!!! I have absolutely no complaints at all.
The verdict that i will give ”Space Nest” is:

8/10

The reason for this very high rating is because of how these guys really made me impressed even though its not my preffered type of Music. And to be very honest it was much better then i expected it to be when i first saw it. Great musicians that played some killer riffs for example.
